Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wontons

Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wontons are a tasty appetizer made by filling wonton wrappers with a buffalo chicken mixture and cooking them in an air fryer until they are crispy. For another delicious bite-sized snack, you might also enjoy my Cream Cheese Wontons.

Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wontons

In this recipe, I opted for square wonton wrappers, though circular ones work just as well. Each wrapper is stuffed with a mix of rotisserie chicken, dry ranch seasoning, buffalo sauce, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese. They are air-fried for a healthier alternative to deep frying. Additionally, I’ll provide instructions for baking them in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer.

Some of the ingredients in this recipe can be homemade or store-bought.

Chicken: You can use store-bought rotisserie chicken, which is sometimes available pre-shredded, or make your own rotisserie chicken. Canned chicken is also an option. Ensure the chicken is finely shredded to fit the wrappers.

Dry Ranch Seasoning Mix: You can purchase a packet from the store or make your own. Homemade seasoning is typically more potent, so start with slightly less than a tablespoon and adjust to taste.

Buffalo Sauce: Use your favorite brand of buffalo sauce (not hot sauce) or make your own.

Cream Cheese: The recipe requires only 2 ounces of cream cheese, leaving you with leftovers that can be used in other recipes, like my Air Fryer BBQ Stuffed Chicken.

Cheese: I recommend cheddar cheese, but feel free to use your preferred type.

Wonton Wrappers: You can buy square or circular wrappers from the store or make your own homemade wrappers.

How to Prepare Buffalo Chicken Wontons

These buffalo chicken wontons are a quick and tasty appetizer perfect for sharing or enjoying on your own! Air frying them makes them healthier than deep-frying. To start, preheat the air fryer to 370°F and spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray.

First, combine shredded chicken, dry ranch seasoning mix, buffalo sauce, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese in a bowl. Then, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash for sealing the wonton wrappers and keeping the creamy filling inside. Place about 2 teaspoons of the chicken mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. It’s better to underfill to avoid bursting during frying. Keep the unfilled wrappers under a damp paper towel to prevent them from drying out. To fold the wontons, dip your finger in the egg wash and run it along the edges of the wrapper, then fold it diagonally in half.

Oven Instructions for Buffalo Chicken Wontons

Yes! If you don’t have an air fryer or it’s already in use for another appetizer like my Air Fryer Southwest Egg Rolls, you can bake these wontons in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400°F and arrange the filled wontons in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Spray the tops of the wontons with cooking spray and bake for 5 minutes. Carefully flip them, spray again, and bake for another 5 minutes. While they won’t be as crispy as those made in an air fryer, they will still be delicious!

What is the Best Air Fryer?

After testing three different brands at home, I highly recommend the Ninja Air Fryer (affiliate link). While you can opt for a larger size if necessary, I find that it excels in delivering consistent results and is incredibly user-friendly. I’ve been thoroughly satisfied with this particular air fryer!
