Greek Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce

Ingredients

For the Gyros:

1 lb (450g) boneless chicken or lamb, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
Pita bread, for serving
Sliced tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce, for garnish
For the Tzatziki Sauce:

1 cup Greek yogurt
1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh dill or mint (optional)
Instructions

Make the Tzatziki Sauce:

In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate while preparing the gyros.
Prepare the Gyros:

In a bowl, toss the sliced meat with olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Cook the Meat:

Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat for about 5-7 minutes, until fully cooked and slightly crispy.
Assemble the Gyros:

Warm the pita bread. Layer the cooked meat, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce.
Serve:
